Mobile SMS Marketing

Text message marketing is taking the business world by storm. This unconventional method can be used effectively by businesses to promote products with quick, easy, and convenient messages sent directly to target audiences. With just a single click of a button, businesses can connect to their current and potential clients, making this an especially viable option for low-budget companies. However, although this is a great marketing option, there are a few essential components every text message must have in order to be effective.

Remember that SMS stands for “short message service.” The name implies that messages are designed to be concise, but many companies lose sight of this. As a general rule of thumb, keep every text to a single message. Sending multiple messages confuses customers and won’t have the impact needed. The basic idea is to give consumers the information they need in a single message. These are the bare essentials to ensure are included in every text.

1. Either the business or product name. Usually businesses don’t leave this out as their main goal is to build brand recognition. Even just keeping the name of a business in front of people helps with this goal. Also, people receive sometimes hundreds of text messages every day and a business may get lost if they don’t identify themselves. In order to build a relationship with each customer, always include the name in the text.

2. Give them an easy out. Nobody wants to enroll in a text messaging offer and then struggle to unsubscribe later on. Always offer an easy opt-out option. This not only builds trust in the company, it also ensures that each person who receives text messages has an interest in the company and wants to receive text messages. While having customers is great, they’re only as good as interested ones. Even a small list of engaged customers is better than a long one of uninterested or even annoyed subscribers who can’t unsubscribe easily.

3. A call to action. When companies send out marketing text messages, each message has a purpose. Many times it is to encourage customers to use or purchase a product or service. Make sure that there is both an invitation and an instruction included in each text message on the benefits of the product offered and how each person can purchase the product. Most people have a fairly short attention span and won’t want to take action if it’s not convenient. Companies that provide this information get themselves one step closer to turning marketing into sales.
